Sodada & Solange Sarria

Sodada is a philosophy founded on the revolutionary Dadaist art movement’s principles that reject racism, sexism and oppression with the intention to establish authentic and inclusive practices through art. I established this salon concept in 2017. I noticed hair salons in Miami were segregated, toxic, heteronormative and oppressive. My goal was to start a movement in Miami to shift these practices. Since then, I’ve learned of numerous stylists stepping up to their craft and inclusivity. I’m proud of Miami for spreading the love. I can’t say I started it but I absolutely contributed.

In case you didn’t know, I am a visual and performing artist who has founded Sodada Salon as a Social Art Practice. I bridge my undergraduate training in sculpture and design with my professional Cosmetology experience to create services that are fueled by innovation and inclusivity. I do this through bringing harmony to all the textures that live on your head, creating a cohesive and uniform sculpture.

The social component of Sodada Salon includes cultural competency in all hair textures, the use of non-toxic, locally made and eco friendly products and discounts that bridge the equity gap. Although my intentions are bold, I’ve learned that I am not everyone’s savior and I don’t want to be. Precision cutting is what I love and do best, it is my gift to the world. Everything else is icing on the cake.
